4X4 SERVICES

The technicians at Powertrain Auto Service have years of experience working on standard 4-wheel drive (4x4) vehicles as well as all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicles. AWD is a full-time 4-wheel-drive system (all four wheels receive torque from the engine simultaneously) that employs a center differential that allows each tire to rotate at different speeds.

We understand the special needs of these vehicles. These are some of the services we offer.

Alignment
Wheel alignment (or simply alignment) is standard car maintenance that involves adjusting the angles of the wheels so that they are set to the manufacturer's specifications. The main purpose is to let the suspension and the steering systems operate at their desired angles - this reduces tire wear. Alignment is a complicated process and not all mechanics get it right. To have experts handle your car's alignment, visit Powertrain Auto Service.

Differentials
The differential transfers the engine power to the wheels. One important function of the differential is to pass on power to the wheels while allowing them to rotate at different speeds - thus the name differential. When turning, the outer wheels travel a larger distance than the inner wheels do (also the front wheels travel a longer distance than the rear wheels). This means that all four wheels travel at different speeds during a turn and this is where the differential comes in to help. To make sure your vehicle's differentials are working properly, have them checked regularly. Contact Powertrain Auto Service today for differentials examination and servicing.

Driveline
A driveline is a part of your motor vehicle that connects the engine and the transmission to the wheel axles. The driveline consists of the parts of the powertrain less the engine and transmission. Failure of the driveline means that the car would not move since energy cannot be transmitted from the engine to the wheel axles. Therefore, make sure that your car's driveline is regularly inspected and serviced. And, at Powertrain Auto Service, you can have the driveline serviced by experts.

Hubs, Seals, Studs, & Nuts
A wheel hub motor, also referred to as a wheel motor, is an electric motor incorporated into the wheel hub and drives it directly. You can have a safer and smoother ride today by replacing your warped and worn out wheel hubs. Let Powertrain Auto Service replace your worn out hubs today.

Properly working seals provide oil and grease sealing - offering enhanced performance in a wide range of temperatures and environments. Worn out or warped seals allow external contaminants to enter the bearing unit or let lubricant escape from the unit. This ultimately leads to premature failure of the bearing unit. To keep out contamination and retain lubricant in the bearings, have the seals replaced with new ones. To have the seals replaced by experts, contact or visit Powertrain Auto Service today.

Studs are the threaded fasteners that hold on the wheels of your truck. The wheel studs are permanently mounted on the wheel hub through the brake disk or brake drum. To secure the wheel, nuts (lug nuts) are fastened over the stud. Stripped wheel studs can be quite dangerous. Damaged wheel studs should be replaced with new ones immediately. To have your truck's wheel studs replaced with high quality ones, call 301-249-8395 or visit Powertrain Auto Service today.

A wheel nut or lug nut is a fastener for securing a wheel on the hub. A set of lug nuts are used to secure a wheel to the threaded wheel studs (which are fixed to a wheel hub). Worn out nuts means one thing - the wheel is not fixed securely on the vehicle which puts the vehicle at the risk of rolling over. To have your truck's wheels securely fastened to the hub, contact or visit Powertrain Auto Service in Bowie, MD 20716 today.

Transfer Cases
A transfer case is a part of a four wheel drive system found in four wheel drive and all wheel drive vehicles. The transfer case receives power from the transmission and sends it to both the front and rear axles. This can be done with a set of gears, but the majority of transfer cases manufactured today are chain driven. The transfer case is connected to the transmission and also to the front and rear axles by means of drive shafts. Trust the automotive experts at Powertrain Auto Service for all your transmission repairs.

Transmissions
Transmission repair is not something to take lightly. The transmission is connected to key parts of your vehicle and needs to be working properly for your safety. Transmission services include replacing filters and draining fluids to prevent transmission damage. Typical transmission issues that may lead to repair may include shifting issues, slipping, stalling, fluid leaking, and the service light turning on. If you are concerned that you may need transmission repair, don't hesitate to schedule an appointment at Powertrain Auto Service today.

Wheel Bearings
Wheel bearings are found inside of wheels, allowing the wheels to spin freely, and are connected to the brake system. They can become worn over time, causing a vibrating suspension and noisy rubbing as the car is driven. If they break completely, the vehicle will become very difficult to control and unsafe to drive. Replacement interval for wheel bearings varies greatly, but they should be checked for leaks and wear periodically. Powertrain Auto Service can make sure that your bearings are in good shape and let you know if they need replacement.

What Our Customers Are Saying

Our SUV malfunctioned while we were out of town. There were many auto shops that did not work on Mercedes Benz. Allen at Powertrain was able to fix the SUV in one day! The car rides great. I was able to travel back home to make it to work on time. We appreciate you and your staff. Thanks.

I got my transmission replaced here for half the price as Honda said they would do for. Honda wasn't offering any sort of warranty either, which is just insane. Powertrain offered me a 6 month warranty, and it has actually been 6 months now and I haven't had any transmission issues! Jennifer was also super comforting as she knew I was stressed out about this, and she knew her stuff, too! I would definitely go back here if I had to...but let's hope I don't! :)

We were heading home to NC after Hurricane Florence, and we got a flat. A good samaritan told us about them and we went to get it taken care of. The refered us to Goodyear "tire" and auto service repair literaly right next door and they wouldn't patch our "tire" makes no sense. Well we told the service representative, she was like she knows they do it and she told us that we will help. So, they patched us and it was cheap. These guys only had one tech and they were busy, but as promptly as possible got us plugged bless their hearts for such short notice and fast service. I would give more stars, but they only allow 5. Thank you guys.

My family and I are so grateful for Powertrain: Mr. Al, Mr. Lee and the amazing receptionist. We were headed to Baltimore to catch a flight for a family vacation to Mexico when we had major car trouble. Being that we lived over 3 hours away and it being after 5 pm, we were worried, tired, and on the verge of tears. We googled mechanics close by and Powertrain was our #1 option. We called them and was told to bring the vehicle in despite the fact that they closed in about 45 minutes. This company went above and beyond to help my family. My three children were greeted with hot chocolate, and we had the immediate feeling of relief. We were shown empathy and compassion. Repairs didn't cost us a fortune. Thank goodness. Two hours later we were on our way. Woohoo! Al could have easily turned us down, charged us a daily storage rate for our vehicle while we caught our flight, and charged us out the roof for repairs to take advantage of this situation. People are put in our lives for a reason, and Mr. Al and his team showed my family there is good in the world and taught my kids a valuable lesson to lookout for others, have faith, and not always think of ourselves. This company is ran with honesty and integrity, and it definitely showed that day. We really can't say enough about Powertrain...and we made our flight!!!! Thank you!

I encountered a really strange problem with my air conditioning in my 2010 Honda Civic. It wasn't cooling or would cool some and then stop after. The pipes would freeze too. I had only been going to Powertrain for just a couple of months and for small repairs so I was not really sure about using their services. Al, Jennifer and his team were so professional in delivering great customer service, very reasonable pricing, trustworthiness, and a commitment to getting the results needed at all costs. They also treat you like family and are very responsive to your needs. I highly recommend this stellar auto shop!

-Maria U.

I went here for a replacement of radiator they are amazing. They're prompt with servicing your car. Knowledgeable about the work and reasonable with prices they are not money hungry jerks like a lot of mechanics can be. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. If your in this area and in need of a mechanic, this is for sure the shop you should go to. Definitely the fastest I have ever gotten my car back from any mechanic that wasn't a major dealership and we all know how pricey a major dealership can be.

-Pretty K.

I have been using this company for over 10 yrs for many different problems. Recently they fix my 2005 mini van transmission. This car is running like brand new. Jennifer at front desk is friendly and owner Al is nice. Ask them any questions.

-Ikumi H.

I've been going to Powertrain for several years. The staff is very polite and professional. They service a wide variety of years, makes and models. They always tell me honestly what's wrong with my car and what needs to be done to fix it. Always give fair prices on all services. If anyone needs work done to their vehicle I would recommend Powertrain.

-Jonithan M.

Jennifer's warm smile greets you upon entering. She is knowledgeable in her craft. The owner, Al, is friendly and approachable. If I have any questions regarding my car or how it works, he's the man I go to. The mechanics are fast. I went in for an oil change and was in and out in less than 20 minutes.

-Johnathon R.

When looking for an auto repair shop, it is a bigger decision than most think. The auto mechanic that works on your car can pretty much tell you anything that they want. In my case I had something going on that I couldn't figure out on my own. I was expecting a huge bill for what ever was wrong. The problem with my car was minor and didn't cost that much. I give them a strong recommendation because they were honest when they didn't have to. Any of my friends that are looking for honest auto repair I am sending them here.

-Gene H.

To the entire crew at Powertrain Auto, I want to say thank you for a job well done on my vehicle. I will heartily recommend Powertrain Auto to anyone who wants a great auto service. The staff altitude and customer service is outstanding. Please keep up the good work. Thank you all !
