An average of 13,000 Americans are killed between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day, some as a result of unperformed vehicle maintenance, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Each year, neglected maintenance leads to more than 2,600 deaths, nearly 100,000 disabling injuries and more than $2 billion in lost wages, medical expenses and property damage.
Most mechanical failures can be traced to neglected maintenance. For example, the U. S. Department of Transportation reports the leading cause of mechanical breakdown on our nation's highways is overheating, a condition that is easily avoidable. Other deficiencies that are simple to detect include low antifreeze/coolant, worn or loose drive belts and defective cooling system hoses.
Checking tire pressure and inflating a tire costs nothing, yet an average of 21 percent of cars inspected in check lanes during National Car Care Month have under inflated tires. This can lead to a blowout and a serious accident.

WIPERS - In the 2001 National Car Care Month vehicle check lanes, 21 percent of participants had wipers that smeared, streaked or chattered across their windshields. Although climates vary, wipers generally need replacing every six months. An easy reminder is to change wiper blades in the spring and fall when you change your clock. Be sure the windshield washers are working properly, too, and keep the reservoir filled with solvent.
LIGHTING - Another important pre-trip check should be exterior and interior lighting. Vehicle check lanes revealed an overall failure rate of over 25 percent in the lighting category. The Car Care Council reminds motorists to check their lights monthly. Other suggestions from the Council include turning on headlights both day and night. This helps define your car's position on the road, and its distance from other drivers. When your vehicle's lighting is defective, other motorists may not get the message that you intend to stop or turn. The end result could be disastrous.
10 Minute Pre-Trip Checkup Can Pay Off
Car Care Council offers three suggestions for a traveler's 10-minute pre-trip checklist:
"While a last minute checkup is better than no checkup, motorists should plan ahead to allow time to perform necessary maintenance themselves or at the local service facility. A properly maintained vehicle is safer and more dependable and will even save a few dollars at the gas pumps," said the Car Care Council's Executive Director, Rich White.
Not only can a pre-trip inspection help reduce chances of costly and possibly dangerous road trouble, it also provides an opportunity to have repairs made at home, with one's own technician who knows the vehicle. Especially important, it provides peace of mind. While no inspection can guarantee a car's performance, it's comforting to know proper precautions were taken.

I got my transmission replaced here for half the price as Honda said they would do for. Honda wasn't offering any sort of warranty either, which is just insane. Powertrain offered me a 6 month warranty, and it has actually been 6 months now and I haven't had any transmission issues! Jennifer was also super comforting as she knew I was stressed out about this, and she knew her stuff, too! I would definitely go back here if I had to...but let's hope I don't! :)
We were heading home to NC after Hurricane Florence, and we got a flat. A good samaritan told us about them and we went to get it taken care of. The refered us to Goodyear "tire" and auto service repair literaly right next door and they wouldn't patch our "tire" makes no sense. Well we told the service representative, she was like she knows they do it and she told us that we will help. So, they patched us and it was cheap. These guys only had one tech and they were busy, but as promptly as possible got us plugged bless their hearts for such short notice and fast service. I would give more stars, but they only allow 5. Thank you guys.
My family and I are so grateful for Powertrain: Mr. Al, Mr. Lee and the amazing receptionist. We were headed to Baltimore to catch a flight for a family vacation to Mexico when we had major car trouble. Being that we lived over 3 hours away and it being after 5 pm, we were worried, tired, and on the verge of tears. We googled mechanics close by and Powertrain was our #1 option. We called them and was told to bring the vehicle in despite the fact that they closed in about 45 minutes. This company went above and beyond to help my family. My three children were greeted with hot chocolate, and we had the immediate feeling of relief. We were shown empathy and compassion. Repairs didn't cost us a fortune. Thank goodness. Two hours later we were on our way. Woohoo! Al could have easily turned us down, charged us a daily storage rate for our vehicle while we caught our flight, and charged us out the roof for repairs to take advantage of this situation. People are put in our lives for a reason, and Mr. Al and his team showed my family there is good in the world and taught my kids a valuable lesson to lookout for others, have faith, and not always think of ourselves. This company is ran with honesty and integrity, and it definitely showed that day. We really can't say enough about Powertrain...and we made our flight!!!! Thank you!
I encountered a really strange problem with my air conditioning in my 2010 Honda Civic. It wasn't cooling or would cool some and then stop after. The pipes would freeze too. I had only been going to Powertrain for just a couple of months and for small repairs so I was not really sure about using their services. Al, Jennifer and his team were so professional in delivering great customer service, very reasonable pricing, trustworthiness, and a commitment to getting the results needed at all costs. They also treat you like family and are very responsive to your needs. I highly recommend this stellar auto shop!
I went here for a replacement of radiator they are amazing. They're prompt with servicing your car. Knowledgeable about the work and reasonable with prices they are not money hungry jerks like a lot of mechanics can be. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. If your in this area and in need of a mechanic, this is for sure the shop you should go to. Definitely the fastest I have ever gotten my car back from any mechanic that wasn't a major dealership and we all know how pricey a major dealership can be.
I have been using this company for over 10 yrs for many different problems. Recently they fix my 2005 mini van transmission. This car is running like brand new. Jennifer at front desk is friendly and owner Al is nice. Ask them any questions.

When looking for an auto repair shop, it is a bigger decision than most think. The auto mechanic that works on your car can pretty much tell you anything that they want. In my case I had something going on that I couldn't figure out on my own. I was expecting a huge bill for what ever was wrong. The problem with my car was minor and didn't cost that much.
