Wheel alignment (or simply alignment) is standard car maintenance that involves adjusting the angles of the wheels so that they are set to the manufacturer's specifications. The main purpose is to let the suspension and the steering systems operate at their desired angles - this reduces tire wear. Alignment is a complicated process and not all mechanics get it right. To have experts handle your car's alignment, visit Powertrain Auto Service.
Anti-lock brakes prevent wheel lock-up when rapidly decelerating by automatically modulating the brake pressure during an emergency stop. With this system, the wheels are able to maintain traction with the road while braking. Failure of the anti-lock brakes could lead to an increase in the risks of multiple vehicle crashes and run-off road crashes. To avoid this, have your anti-lock brake system checked and repaired by experts. At Powertrain Auto Service, we have anti-lock brake experts who will examine and repair your faulty ABS - keeping you safe.
Brake System Flush
Brake fluid is hygroscopic (it absorbs moisture). The absorbed moisture lowers the fluid's boiling point. It also corrodes the lines and cylinders. With the lowered boiling point, the brake fluid could boil during braking which makes you lose braking ability. Although this is an extreme scenario, it does happen in heavy braking. To reduce the effects of the absorbed moisture, auto manufacturers recommend that you have a brake flush done periodically. A brake system flush involves the replacement of used and contaminated fluid with fresh fluid. With Powertrain Auto Service's quick lube services, you will have a brake system flush performed by brake experts. Call 301-249-8395 or visit Powertrain Auto Service today.
A brake is a mechanical device for slowing or stopping a vehicle (usually by means of friction). In short, a brake inhibits your car's motion. It lets you stop the car whenever and wherever you choose. Brakes are one of the most important parts of a motor vehicle. Without them, you would not be able to stop the car. If your vehicle's brakes are having issues, consider having them worked on. Brake experts at Powertrain Auto Service can work on your car's brakes to ensure you have a safe drive.
A chassis is the car's internal framework that supports the body and other parts like the wheels, engine, transmission, driveshaft, differential, and suspension. A weak or damaged chassis will translate to a weak car. To have a strong and properly working vehicle, have your car's chassis checked for defects. At Powertrain Auto Service, there are experienced undercar service providers who can work on your chassis.
A motor vehicle exhaust system is piping used to guide exhaust gasses away from the engine to the outdoors. Although the exhaust system's main purpose is to guide exhaust gases from the engine to the outdoors, it can be modified to increase engine power, reduce pollution, and reduce noise. To achieve this, you need to invest in a custom-made exhaust system.
At Powertrain Auto Service in Bowie, MD 20716, we can create a custom-made stainless steel exhaust for your vehicle. We specialize in custom performance exhaust systems, stainless steel mufflers, mufflers, exhaust kits, racing mufflers, and exhaust accessories for a huge and diverse range of vehicles: customized cars, standard road cars, classic cars, kit cars, 4x4's, imports, and racecars.
The differential is a car part that compensates for the difference in travel distance between the inner wheels and outer wheels when the vehicle is turning. Due to the differential's position in most non-four-wheel-drive (FWD) vehicles (located at the rear and under the car), it does not get any of the star treatment the engine gets. The one thing that every car owner needs to know is that failure of the differential will mean failure of the car. To save the differential from failure, you need to have differential fluid changed every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. Changing the oil on the differential is as important as changing the car's engine oil. Although checking and changing differential oil is pretty easy, you need to visit an auto shop to get a comprehensive differential flush. For differential flush services, visit or call Powertrain Auto Service in Bowie, MD 20716 today.
The differential transfers the engine power to the wheels. One important function of the differential is to pass on power to the wheels while allowing them to rotate at different speeds - thus the name differential. When turning, the outer wheels travel a larger distance than the inner wheels do (also the front wheels travel a longer distance than the rear wheels). This means that all four wheels travel at different speeds during a turn and this is where the differential comes in to help. To make sure your vehicle's differentials are working properly, have them checked regularly. Contact Powertrain Auto Service today for differentials examination and servicing.
A driveline is a part of your motor vehicle that connects the engine and the transmission to the wheel axles. The driveline consists of the parts of the powertrain less the engine and transmission. Failure of the driveline means that the car would not move since energy cannot be transmitted from the engine to the wheel axles. Therefore, make sure that your car's driveline is regularly inspected and serviced. And, at Powertrain Auto Service, you can have the driveline serviced by experts.
In a motor vehicle, an exhaust system is a piping used to guide exhaust fumes away from the engine - usually to the rear of the vehicle. A properly functioning exhaust system not only sounds better, it is better - for you, your car, and the environment. Powertrain Auto Service has expert technicians to service your car's exhaust system.
Shocks (or shock absorbers) are mechanical devices designed to smooth out rough roads. The devices do this by converting kinetic energy to another form of energy. Properly working shocks reduce the effect of traveling over rough ground, leading to improved ride quality and vehicle handling. When shocks develop problems, driving on poorly leveled roads becomes unpleasant, and your vehicle may sway when turning. To have your vehicle's shocks diagnosed and repaired, visit Powertrain Auto Service today.
Much like a shock absorber (shocks), your car's struts provide a dampening effect as you travel over a road's surface. By absorbing the shock of the road, struts allow passengers to ride in a car without constant and uncomfortable motion. Struts work a bit differently than shocks in that they provide structural support for your car's suspension. This means that struts support your car's weight, unlike shocks which only regulate the speed at which the weight is transferred. Struts usually last around 50,000 or 60,000 miles. This is simply because the damping characteristics of the parts gradually deteriorate over time. Call Powertrain Auto Service at 301-249-8395 if you have questions about the struts on your car. Our expert technicians will diagnose any problems and help you make an informed decision about repairs.
As tires get older, they lose traction and deteriorate from the inside out, increasing the likelihood of a tire bursting. This can cause a rapid loss of control of your vehicle. To have a better performing vehicle, you need to make sure the tires are in good condition. For all your tire needs, contact Powertrain Auto Service today.
Our SUV malfunctioned while we were out of town. There were many auto shops that did not work on Mercedes Benz. Allen at Powertrain was able to fix the SUV in one day! The car rides great. I was able to travel back home to make it to work on time. We appreciate you and your staff. Thanks.
I got my transmission replaced here for half the price as Honda said they would do for. Honda wasn't offering any sort of warranty either, which is just insane. Powertrain offered me a 6 month warranty, and it has actually been 6 months now and I haven't had any transmission issues! Jennifer was also super comforting as she knew I was stressed out about this, and she knew her stuff, too! I would definitely go back here if I had to...but let's hope I don't! :)
We were heading home to NC after Hurricane Florence, and we got a flat. A good samaritan told us about them and we went to get it taken care of. The refered us to Goodyear "tire" and auto service repair literaly right next door and they wouldn't patch our "tire" makes no sense. Well we told the service representative, she was like she knows they do it and she told us that we will help. So, they patched us and it was cheap. These guys only had one tech and they were busy, but as promptly as possible got us plugged bless their hearts for such short notice and fast service. I would give more stars, but they only allow 5. Thank you guys.
My family and I are so grateful for Powertrain: Mr. Al, Mr. Lee and the amazing receptionist. We were headed to Baltimore to catch a flight for a family vacation to Mexico when we had major car trouble. Being that we lived over 3 hours away and it being after 5 pm, we were worried, tired, and on the verge of tears. We googled mechanics close by and Powertrain was our #1 option. We called them and was told to bring the vehicle in despite the fact that they closed in about 45 minutes. This company went above and beyond to help my family. My three children were greeted with hot chocolate, and we had the immediate feeling of relief. We were shown empathy and compassion. Repairs didn't cost us a fortune. Thank goodness. Two hours later we were on our way. Woohoo! Al could have easily turned us down, charged us a daily storage rate for our vehicle while we caught our flight, and charged us out the roof for repairs to take advantage of this situation. People are put in our lives for a reason, and Mr. Al and his team showed my family there is good in the world and taught my kids a valuable lesson to lookout for others, have faith, and not always think of ourselves. This company is ran with honesty and integrity, and it definitely showed that day. We really can't say enough about Powertrain...and we made our flight!!!! Thank you!
I encountered a really strange problem with my air conditioning in my 2010 Honda Civic. It wasn't cooling or would cool some and then stop after. The pipes would freeze too. I had only been going to Powertrain for just a couple of months and for small repairs so I was not really sure about using their services. Al, Jennifer and his team were so professional in delivering great customer service, very reasonable pricing, trustworthiness, and a commitment to getting the results needed at all costs. They also treat you like family and are very responsive to your needs. I highly recommend this stellar auto shop!
I went here for a replacement of radiator they are amazing. They're prompt with servicing your car. Knowledgeable about the work and reasonable with prices they are not money hungry jerks like a lot of mechanics can be. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. If your in this area and in need of a mechanic, this is for sure the shop you should go to. Definitely the fastest I have ever gotten my car back from any mechanic that wasn't a major dealership and we all know how pricey a major dealership can be.
I have been using this company for over 10 yrs for many different problems. Recently they fix my 2005 mini van transmission. This car is running like brand new. Jennifer at front desk is friendly and owner Al is nice. Ask them any questions.
Outstanding honest auto service!!!
I have taken my car to Powertrain for various issues, I am always satisfied with the fair pricing and respectable service. Every problem I have had, is diagnosed and repaired in a timely manner. Every time someone has car trouble I always recommend Powertrain. 5 out of 5
Reliable and great services; reasonable price. I would recommend anyone who wants to get his/her car serviced.
I've been going to Powertrain for several years. The staff is very polite and professional. They service a wide variety of years, makes and models. They always tell me honestly what's wrong with my car and what needs to be done to fix it. Always give fair prices on all services. If anyone needs work done to their vehicle I would recommend Powertrain.
Jennifer's warm smile greets you upon entering. She is knowledgeable in her craft. The owner, Al, is friendly and approachable. If I have any questions regarding my car or how it works, he's the man I go to. The mechanics are fast. I went in for an oil change and was in and out in less than 20 minutes.
When looking for an auto repair shop, it is a bigger decision than most think. The auto mechanic that works on your car can pretty much tell you anything that they want. In my case I had something going on that I couldn't figure out on my own. I was expecting a huge bill for what ever was wrong. The problem with my car was minor and didn't cost that much. I give them a strong recommendation because they were honest when they didn't have to. Any of my friends that are looking for honest auto repair I am sending them here.
To the entire crew at Powertrain Auto, I want to say thank you for a job well done on my vehicle. I will heartily recommend Powertrain Auto to anyone who wants a great auto service. The staff altitude and customer service is outstanding. Please keep up the good work. Thank you all !
